Cichlasoma sp. HYBRID(Flowerhorn Cichlid 'Short Body Super Red Dragon', Super Red Dragon Cichlid)

These deeply coloured Red Flowerhorns are an ornamental aquarium fish known widely for their highly vivid colours and their distinctively shaped heads. It is due to the shape of their heads that they are named Flowerhorns. The head protuberance (kok) is formally termed a "nuchal hump."

These species of fish are, in fact, a man-made hybrid that do not exist in the wild. First developed in Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan, they come in variations that became available in America by 1999.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

Flowerhorn care is very easy since the fish isn’t demanding and it’s an enduring one. Let’s mention that the fish grows up to be very large – about 30-40 cm and it requires a spacious tank, especially if the fish has some tank mates. They can be a rather territory-dependent fish with an aggressive temper, so a large tank is recommended with no other tank mates.

Flowerhorns like digging up the tank's bottom and eating the plants, so an aqua-scape with plants would not thrive. For this reason (and due to the fish size) it’s recommended to put rocks, snags and other tank decorations directly on a tank bottom, not on the substrate.
