Tateurndina ocellicauda(Peacock Goby)

Stunningly coloured, when kept well these fish are veritable jewels. They have blue, red, and yellow speckles all over the body and fins. The female has a more rounded belly than the male, but otherwise the two sexes are quite similar.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A peaceful species outside of breeding time, but breeding pairs defend their home range enthusiastically. They lay their eggs in the open, at which point the male drives the female off and protects the eggs until the fry are mobile. The fry are free swimming four to six days after spawning, and will immediately take newly hatched brine shrimp.

Note that this goby does not need (or like) brackish water. On the other hand, it will mix well with softwater species including rainbowfish, tetras, and halfbeaks.

Family Group: Miscellaneous
Distribution New Guinea
Temperature 22-26C
Size 7 cm
Water Parameters Soft, acid water preferred
Water PH 6.0-7.0
