Channa punctata(Spotted Snakehead, Green Snakehead)

The standard form of this species silvery-green with black patches on its flanks and on its fins. Notable forms include a golden 'yellow' variant and a metallic green 'fluoro green' variant.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A well-behaved, medium-sized snakehead that can work well in community tanks alongside large barbs, armoured catfish and other species of appropriate size. Like other snakeheads it is a bit of a jumper, so the aquarium needs to be securely covered. Floating vegetation helps it feel more secure.

Carnivorous; enjoys river shrimps and earthworms. Can be weaned onto white fish fillet and chopped seafood.

This species has been bred in captivity, which may account for at least some of the varieties on sale.
