L034(Ancistrus ranunculus, Medusa Pleco)

A distinctive Ancistrus with a very broad head. Basic colour is dark grey-brown with some mottling on the dorsal surface. Males are ornamented with a number of large fleshy tentacles around the edge of the head. On females, these tentacles are much shorter. An attractive species ideally suited to a community tank with gentle tankmates such as tetras and dwarf cichlids.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A peaceful but territorial plec well suited to a clean, mature aquarium. An omnivirous species that will eat algae as well as prepared foods, bloodworms, and sliced vegetables such as courgette. Little is known about its social behaviour or breeding behaviour. As with other Ancistrus, this species can be kept in groups provided each fish has enough space, and it is likely that the male protects the eggs which are deposited in a suitable burrow.
