Paracheirodon simulans(Green Neon Tetra)

Very similar to the neon tetra, this species has a more greeny-blue hue than the bright electric blue of that species. Another difference is in the length of the blue band. In neons, this band only runs as far as the adipose fin, whereas on these fish the blue goes all the way to the tail.

Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

An intensely social fish, this species must be kept in large groups, at least a dozen specimens and preferably twenty or more. In this regard it is identical to the neon and cardinal tetras. It is a very peaceful species, so should not be mixed with more aggressive or predatory species.

Because green neons are collected from the wild, they can be sensitive to bacterial infections from captive bred species. For this reason, they should either be kept alone or with species that have been fully quarantined beforehand. They can otherwise turn out to be rather delicate and short lived. Breeding similar to the neon tetra.
