Amaralia hypsiura(Two Rayed Banjo Catfish)

A dorso-ventrally compressed catfish with a round body and a long thin tail, hence the banjo catfish name. The head is distinctly rugose, and the fins are large and paddle-like. Body colour mottled brown.


Fish information (behaviour and breeding):

A very shy, nocturnal catfish that prefers an aquarium where it can dig into soft sand and wait for nightfall. Hardly moves at all during the daytime. Do not keep with aggressive or territorial fish (such as cichlids) but this catfish makes a fine companion for quiet tetras and other small catfish.
